Point of View

Hi, I’m Gary Cheung, and welcome to Beyond1n0.com — a platform where I explore the intersection of AI governance, decision accountability, and information risk in increasingly complex environments.

What I Explore

Much of today’s governance discussion focuses on controls, compliance, and model oversight.

My interest sits one layer upstream:

How are important AI-influenced decisions framed, governed, and made accountable before risk scales?

Increasingly, I believe many governance failures begin not at review, but at design — when decision boundaries, ownership, and authority are still ambiguous.

That is the space I explore here.

My Perspective

Over 15+ years across financial services, consulting, and enterprise technology, I’ve worked at the intersection of cyber risk, resilience, and oversight.

That experience shaped a simple belief:

Risk is often less about what systems can do, and more about what decisions organizations allow without sufficient clarity of ownership.

My writing focuses on questions such as:

  • Decision accountability in AI-enabled environments
  • Governance at the design phase, not just the review phase
  • Early risk visibility before issues scale into control failures
  • How risk, authority, and decision-making intersect in practice

Less “how-to.”

More decision framing.

Why Beyond1n0

I created Beyond1n0 as a space to explore ideas that often sit between traditional silos — where technology risk, governance, and executive judgment meet.

Not as a consulting platform.

Not as a content engine.

But as an evolving body of thought around how organizations govern increasingly consequential decisions.

The name reflects that intent:

Going beyond the systems themselves — into the decisions behind them.

Current Focus

My recent work is increasingly centered around three themes:

Decision Accountability
Who owns outcomes when AI influences decisions?

Design-Phase Governance
How risk can be surfaced before it is embedded.

AI Risk Decision Systems
Exploring structured ways to make complex decisions more governable.

Let’s Connect

I believe the most useful governance conversations happen through thoughtful exchange.

If these themes resonate — whether from a risk, resilience, or governance perspective — I welcome the dialogue.
